A shocking act of violence over a small debt has left the Khulna community in grief after a local tea seller was killed by a farmer organisation leader. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, 17 March 2026, near Bhabanipur Government Primary School in Rupsa Upazila. The victim, Din Mohammad Dhali, aged 52, was the son of Abul Kashem Dhali and a well-known tea vendor in the area.
According to family and local sources, the dispute arose over a 400 Taka outstanding payment for meat sold. Abul Khayer Loskar, convenor of the Ghatbhog Union Farmers’ Association and a professional meat seller, had not received the payment and reportedly went to Din Mohammad’s tea stall to demand settlement. A verbal confrontation quickly escalated into a physical altercation.
Eyewitnesses reported that, during the dispute, Loskar struck Din Mohammad on the head with a brick. The victim fell to the ground, severely injured, prompting local residents to rush to his aid. Alarmed by the gathering crowd, Loskar fled the scene before authorities could arrive.
Din Mohammad was initially taken to the Upazila Health Complex in critical condition and subsequently transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Despite efforts by medical staff, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Rupsa Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Abdur Razzak Mir, confirmed the incident, noting that preliminary investigations indicate the fatal head injury from the brick strike as the cause of death. The police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the suspect, Abul Khayer Loskar, and a case is being prepared.
The incident has caused widespread shock and unrest in the local community, highlighting concerns over small-scale disputes escalating into fatal violence.
