In a shocking case of familial abduction, police in Chuadanga swiftly rescued an eight-year-old boy after he was kidnapped by his own father for ransom. The dramatic incident unfolded on Tuesday, 17 March 2026, leaving the local community alarmed and highlighting the complexities of domestic disputes escalating into criminal acts.
According to police reports, the victim, Siam, was abducted by his father, Azizul, 28, a resident of Morakati village under Kalora Thana in Satkhira District, along with an accomplice, Akhtar, 26, son of the late Abdul Masjid from Southpara, Jibannagar.
The abduction took place at approximately 5:30 pm. The perpetrators took Siam to an isolated garden, where he was restrained and threatened with a sharp sickle held to his neck. Subsequently, they contacted Siam’s mother, demanding a ransom of 50,000 Taka. The kidnappers allegedly threatened to kill Siam and dispose of his body if the ransom was not paid.
Upon receiving information about the incident, multiple police units launched a coordinated operation. By 9:30 pm, officers located the suspects in Paka Daspara, Jibannagar, and arrested both Azizul and Akhtar. The child was rescued unharmed.
During the rescue, authorities recovered 7,000 Taka out of 10,300 Taka that had been sent for ransom via mobile banking, along with the sharp sickle used in the abduction.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and OPS), Jamal Al Naser, confirmed the arrests and stated that preliminary interrogation revealed the plot was premeditated. The police learned that Siam’s mother was currently residing in India, and the father had allegedly sought to exploit her absence to extort money.
“The accused planned to abduct the child, take photos while threatening him with a weapon, and demand money from his mother. The child was fortunately rescued before any harm could come to him,” ASP Jamal Al Naser said.
A formal case has been registered at Jibannagar Police Station, and the investigation is ongoing. Police are reviewing digital communications and tracing financial transactions related to the ransom attempt.
Residents expressed shock and concern over the incident, emphasising the importance of vigilant parenting and community awareness to prevent similar tragedies. Neighbours commended the rapid response of the police, which ensured the safe recovery of the child and the arrest of both perpetrators.
