Bangladesh Climbs Rankings After Series Win

Bangladesh’s cricket stars have made significant strides in the latest ICC One Day International (ODI) rankings following their hard-fought series victory against Pakistan. The three-match series, which concluded on 15 March, saw Bangladesh clinch a 2-1 win, and several players have now improved their global standing.

The most notable performer was Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Bangladesh’s 28-year-old captain. His disciplined bowling throughout the series earned him nine places in the ODI bowler rankings, propelling him into the top ten at seventh position. Miraz bowled a total of 30 overs in the series, conceding just 3.33 runs per over while claiming five wickets. His outstanding performance has also pushed him two places higher in the all-rounder rankings, now second with 280 rating points, narrowly ahead of Sikandar Raza (276), though still behind Azmatullah Omarzai, who leads with 329 points.

In contrast, Miraz contributed little with the bat, scoring just 1 run in the second ODI, which was his only batting opportunity in the three-match series. Nonetheless, his all-round impact remains substantial.

Other Bangladeshi bowlers also made notable gains. Taskin Ahmed rose 12 places to 28th, Mustafizur Rahman climbed 13 places to 47th, and Nahid Rana made a remarkable leap of 65 places to reach 98th. Meanwhile, Rishad slipped seven places to 68th among bowlers and dropped 13 places to 43rd in the all-rounder category.

The batting rankings saw significant improvement for Tanzid Hasan, the series’ top batsman for Bangladesh. Scoring 175 runs across three matches, including a century, he jumped 31 places to 55th. Towhid Hridoy also advanced two positions to 32nd, marking the highest ranking among Bangladeshi batsmen. The top three spots remain occupied by David Warner, Virat Kohli, and Ibrahim Zadran.

The following table summarises the notable movements of Bangladeshi players in the latest ODI rankings:

Player Role Ranking Change New Position Rating Points Notes
Mehedi Hasan Miraz Bowler +9 7 Economical, 5 wickets
Mehedi Hasan Miraz All-rounder +2 2 280 Only batted once
