Woman Dies After Bag Snatched From Private Car

In a tragic incident in Dhaka’s Uttara area on Thursday morning, a 21-year-old housewife, Mukta Akter, lost her life after falling from a rickshaw when a private car snatched her handbag. The incident occurred around 9:30 am near Uttara South Metro Station.

Mukta, originally from Sonapara village in Barguna Sadar Upazila, was the daughter of Abdul Jalil. She and her husband, Limon Hossain, resided in the Southkhan Faidabad area, Dhaka, on rented accommodation. Limon works in a garment factory, while Mukta was a homemaker.

According to her husband, Mukta was travelling to a market in Mirpur Pallabi to purchase items for the upcoming Eid festival, riding in a battery-operated rickshaw. Another passenger in the rickshaw reported that their vehicle was passing beneath the Uttara South Metro Station when a man in a private car reached out and yanked her handbag. The force caused Mukta to fall from the rickshaw onto the road, sustaining severe injuries.

Immediate assistance came from passersby and the other rickshaw passenger, who took Mukta to Uttara Modern Hospital. Limon arrived to find his wife in critical condition. Due to delays in receiving proper treatment, she was subsequently transferred to Ahsanullah Medical College in Tongi, and later to Pangu Hospital. Eventually, she was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

According to Md. Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical Police Camp, the deceased had sustained injuries to her head and forehead. Her body has been sent to the morgue for post-mortem examination. The incident is currently under investigation by Turag Police Station.
