Ward Boy Dies in Faridpur Lightning Strike

Faridpur was struck by tragedy on Friday, 20 March, when a hospital ward boy, 52-year-old Azharul Islam, lost his life in a sudden lightning strike. The fatal incident occurred in the vicinity of the C&B ghat near Aijuddin Matubbar’s Dangi area in the Dikrirchar Union, leaving the local community in shock.

Azharul was employed at the Diabetic Association Medical College and Hospital in Faridpur’s JhilTuli area, where he was known for his dedicated service. Colleagues and neighbours alike have expressed deep sorrow over the sudden loss of the long-standing hospital staff member.

According to eyewitnesses, including his co-worker Kawsar Hossain, the incident occurred shortly after noon when dark clouds unexpectedly gathered over the sky. Concerned that livestock in the fields might be caught in the impending rain, Azharul ventured out to bring the cows to safety. It was during this effort, as a heavy downpour accompanied by thunder and lightning commenced, that he was tragically struck and killed instantly.

The Faridpur Kotwali police, led by Officer-in-Charge Md. Shahidul Islam, arrived at the scene promptly. The authorities recovered Azharul’s body and initiated formal proceedings. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the local police station to ensure a proper investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
