Imran Sings for First Female Composer in “Dum”

In a landmark collaboration for Bangladeshi cinema, renowned singer Imran Mahmudul has lent his voice to a song composed by a female musician for the first time. The track, “Kothay Pabo Tahare”, from the newly released film Dum, features lyrics and composition by Parsha Mahjabin Purni, who also shares vocals with Imran. The song premiered during Chandratra, and its melodic fusion has already begun to capture audiences’ attention.

Parsha first came into the public eye during the July 2024 movement with her song “Cholo Bhule Jai”, which earned widespread acclaim. Since then, she has also been recognised for her acting on television and OTT platforms. With Dum, Parsha has stepped into the dual role of composer and lyricist for a feature film, marking a significant milestone in her artistic journey.

Speaking about the experience, Imran said, “It’s the first time I’ve sung a song composed by a female musician. It was a completely new experience. Purni has written and composed the piece brilliantly. The song is like a long-distance horse race—slowly but surely finding its place in people’s hearts.”

He added praise for Parsha’s work and their long-standing association: “I’ve known Purni since 2017, and I’ve admired her writing from the start. When she first sent me the composition, I knew instantly that this was perfect. It has turned out to be an exceptional song.”

Parsha reflected on their creative rapport, stating, “I can share everything with Imran; he is like a mentor and a good friend to me. After writing the song, I played it for him, and he immediately understood the vision I had for it.”

The Kothay Pabo Tahare music video features the lead actors of Dum, Afran Nisho and Puja Cherry. While this marks Imran’s first song in a Nisho-starrer film, the singer has a historical connection with him: Nisho appeared in the music video of Imran’s early hit, “Tumi Dure Dure Ar Theko Na”. Reflecting on this, Imran said, “Although it’s my first song for his film, Nisho and I have a long story. After several years, returning to a film with him feels special. I hope this song stays in everyone’s hearts.”

Directed by Redwan Rony, Dum tells a survival story inspired by true events and marks Rony’s return to filmmaking after a decade. The film is produced by SVF–Alpha i Entertainment Limited and has been released in cinemas across Bangladesh starting Eid.

In addition to Dum, Imran’s voice features on multiple other Eid 2026 film tracks, including “Shuddhatar Prem” and “Tumi Chara” from Siam’s Rakshas, and “Pori” from Shakib Khan’s Prince. Notably, Pori represents Imran’s first musical composition for a Shakib Khan film in eight years.
