Youth Brutally Beaten to Death in Sitakunda

In a shocking act of violence on Chand Raat, a young man was beaten to death in Chittagong’s Sitakunda Upazila over a trivial dispute. The victim, 30-year-old Mohammad Raju, was lured from his home and attacked in the Madambibirhat area of Bhatiari Union on Friday evening (20 March) at around 9:00 pm. Police have arrested one suspect in connection with the incident.

Raju, a resident of the Abdul Khalek Sareng household, was the son of Mohammad Harun. Local sources reported that tensions began in the early evening, just before iftar, over a minor disagreement concerning a small tree. During the altercation, Raju’s relative, Mohammad Azam, became involved. While Raju attempted to calm the situation and prevent further conflict, a heated argument broke out between the two parties. Although the matter appeared to subside temporarily, resentment lingered.

Later that night, at approximately 9:00 pm, Azam, accompanied by his four sons and an associate named Anwar, deliberately called Raju from his home. The group then assaulted him with bricks and sticks, resulting in Raju’s death at the scene. Neighbours, alarmed by the violence, immediately contacted the national emergency helpline 999. Police arrived promptly, recovered the body, and apprehended Mohammad Azam.

The Sitakunda Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Mahinul Islam, stated that the body had been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. He confirmed that legal proceedings are underway and that authorities are attempting to identify and arrest other individuals involved.
