Local Awami League Leader Dies While Mediating Dispute

A tragic incident in Monirampur, Jhenaidah, claimed the life of a local Awami League leader, Abdul Hai, 50, after he was injured while attempting to resolve a dispute between three individuals. The incident occurred on Saturday at around 7:30 pm in the Nengurahaat market of Chaluahati Union.

Abdul Hai, who served as the Joint Convenor of the Chaluahati Union Awami League, was a resident of Ratanidia village. Following the incident, police detained a man named Abul Khayer in connection with the case.

Incident Overview

According to local sources, the dispute involved Abul Khayer, Mostak, and Billal, and reportedly stemmed from an old financial disagreement. Observing the altercation, Abdul Hai intervened in an effort to mediate and calm the situation. During the confrontation, he was pushed by one of the parties involved, causing him to fall and sustain serious injuries.

Emergency services were called, and Abdul Hai was transported to hospital. Tragically, he was pronounced dead en route.

Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the precise cause of death. One account suggests that Abdul Hai was struck in the chest while attempting to mediate, resulting in his fall and subsequent death. Another version indicates that he may have suffered a stroke following the impact.

Kamruzzaman Shahin, President of the Chaluahati Union BNP, noted that Abdul Hai had a prior history of stroke. He suggested that the physical shock from the fall may have triggered a fatal stroke.

The news of Abdul Hai’s death sparked unrest in the area. Local residents, angered by the incident, chased Abul Khayer and confined him in a building within the market before police arrived and took him into custody.
