Jaima Rahman Once Offered Chelsea Women’s Goalkeeper Role

Bangladesh’s Sports Minister Aminul Haque has revealed that Jaima Rahman, daughter of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, was once offered the opportunity to join the Chelsea Women’s Football Club as a goalkeeper.

In an interview with local media, Minister Haque said, “Our current Prime Minister’s wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and their accomplished daughter Jaima Rahman have an extraordinary passion for sports. During my visit to London for a meeting with the Prime Minister, I had the chance to speak directly with Dr. Zubaida and Jaima.”

Minister Highlights Sporting Passion

Minister Haque emphasised that both mother and daughter have a far greater enthusiasm for sports than the Prime Minister himself. He quoted the Prime Minister as saying:

“Aminul, my love for sports does not compare to that of my wife and daughter Jaima Rahman. They are a thousand times more passionate than I am.”

He further noted the remarkable fact that Jaima Rahman, standing tall and athletic, had been offered a position as goalkeeper for Chelsea Women’s team, one of the most prestigious clubs in the English Premier League. While Jaima was reportedly talented enough to secure the opportunity, Minister Haque suggested that family circumstances may have prevented her from pursuing the position.

“She is quite tall and physically suited for goalkeeping. That chance was genuinely offered to her, but for reasons perhaps linked to family priorities, she did not take it up,” he said.

Interestingly, Minister Haque also shared a lighter detail about her sporting preferences, noting that Jaima Rahman is reportedly a Manchester United fan, much like himself, despite her association with Chelsea.

Minister Haque’s comments highlight both Jaima Rahman’s sporting talent and the deep family passion for athletics. This revelation has sparked curiosity among sports enthusiasts in Bangladesh, with many praising the young talent for her abilities and noting the unusual crossover of political prominence and professional sports opportunities.
