Border Guards Seize LSD Worth Over 62 Million Taka

Kushtia, Bangladesh – The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has carried out a series of successful operations in Kushtia’s border areas, recovering a substantial quantity of LSD and other illicit substances, along with smuggled goods. The estimated market value of the confiscated items is approximately 62.68 million taka, authorities reported on Tuesday.

According to a press release issued by Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB), the operation was conducted following credible intelligence regarding drug trafficking along the border. The seizure underscores the BGB’s ongoing efforts to curb smuggling and maintain security in the region.

LSD Recovery from Train Search

On the afternoon of Tuesday, 24 March, a specialised BGB patrol unit conducted a meticulous search in the Mirpur Railway Station area. During the operation, the team inspected the Madhumati Express, en route from Rajshahi to Dhaka.

Officials discovered 12 abandoned bottles of Indian-manufactured LSD, each containing 50 millilitres of the drug. The total estimated market value of the seized LSD is around 62.4 million taka. The drugs were found in a state of abandonment, suggesting that the traffickers had attempted to evade detection.

Additional Seizures

In addition to the LSD, separate BGB operations earlier on the same day in Daulatpur’s Munshiganj Maidan and the Pragpur riverbank area yielded a large quantity of Indian dexamethasone tablets, Faredil syrup, and leaf-wrapped bidi cigarettes. These items, commonly trafficked across the border, represent a significant effort by smugglers to introduce illegal goods into local markets.

The BGB emphasised that these operations form part of a continuous campaign to intercept drugs and contraband along Bangladesh’s western frontier.

Statement from BGB

In the press briefing, BGB officials stated: “We remain committed to preventing drug trafficking and cross-border smuggling. These operations demonstrate our vigilance and operational readiness in the Kushtia sector.”

Authorities also noted that additional surveillance and intelligence-driven patrols are being intensified to prevent recurrence and to identify the networks responsible for the smuggling attempts.

Summary of Seizures

Date Location Items Seized Quantity/Details Estimated Market Value
24 Mar 2026 Mirpur Railway Station, Kushtia Indian LSD 12 bottles, 50 ml each 62,400,000 BDT

Operational Context

The BGB’s Kushtia battalion is responsible for patrolling sensitive border zones, where trafficking routes are often exploited by criminal networks. Recent intelligence operations have enabled the force to pre-emptively intercept large consignments, thereby preventing drugs and contraband from entering domestic markets.

Officials emphasised that public cooperation and timely intelligence are crucial for sustaining these operations. Locals are encouraged to report suspicious activities along border areas to assist law enforcement in combating illicit trade.

The latest seizures highlight both the scale of cross-border smuggling attempts and the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence-led operations. The BGB has reiterated that its vigilance along the border will continue, signalling a firm stance against illegal trafficking and related criminal activities.
