A school bus was set ablaze by miscreants in Manikganj on Sunday night. Upon receiving the news, members of the Fire Service rushed to the spot and managed to bring the fire under control. However, by that time, most parts of the bus had already been burnt.
At around eight o’clock in the evening, miscreants set fire to a bus parked at a filling station in the Uthli Mor area of Shibalaya Upazila.
According to school authorities and Shibalaya Police, several buses are used by Munnu International School and College, located in Munnu City of Gilondo area under Manikganj Sadar, to transport students. Every morning, these buses carry students from Uthli and nearby areas to the school and back home.
After dropping off students in their respective areas on Sunday afternoon, the bus was parked beside Sarmano CNG & Filling Station in the Uthli area. Around eight in the evening, a few miscreants arrived and set the bus on fire. Locals, noticing the blaze, immediately informed the Fire Service.
Firefighters later reached the spot and brought the flames under control. By then, most of the bus, including its interior, had been destroyed. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Colonel (Retd.) Zahidul Islam, Principal of Munnu International School and College, said that the burnt bus was not owned by the institution. It was a hired vehicle used for student transportation.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) S. M. Aman Ullah of Shibalaya Police Station said that the police had visited the spot after receiving the information and started an investigation. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being analysed to identify those involved in the incident.
