A woman, estimated to be around 30 years old and yet to be identified, was killed after being struck by a train in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah district on Thursday morning, 26 March. The tragic incident occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. near Barobazar Railway Station, close to a petrol pump along the railway line.
According to local sources, the woman was found lying beside the tracks after being hit by the Chitra Express, a passenger train operating on the Khulna–Dhaka route. The train had already passed Barobazar Railway Station and was roughly 200 yards beyond the station when the accident took place.
Eyewitnesses alerted railway authorities shortly after the incident. Railway staff at Barobazar immediately informed the railway police in Jessore. Law enforcement officers subsequently arrived at the scene and recovered the body for necessary legal and investigative procedures.
At this stage, the identity of the deceased remains unknown, and no personal documents were recovered from the site. Local residents speculated that the incident may have been a case of suicide, although officials have not confirmed any cause pending investigation.
Authorities have stated that a formal inquiry will be conducted to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death, including whether it was an accident or intentional act. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination as part of standard procedure.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns about railway safety in Bangladesh, particularly in areas where railway lines run close to populated or semi-urban zones without adequate protective barriers or warning systems.
