The blaze broke out around 1:30am on Tuesday at Bhuiyarhat South Market, a busy local trading hub. According to eyewitness accounts, the fire started suddenly and intensified rapidly, spreading from one shop to another within minutes. The highly flammable goods stored in the marketplace contributed to the swift escalation of the flames, making it extremely difficult for shopkeepers and residents to contain the situation before emergency services arrived.
The affected establishments included a diverse range of small businesses such as fruit stalls, grocery shops, cold corner outlets, pharmacies, and scrap material traders. In total, 24 shops owned by around 20 traders were completely gutted in the inferno.
Upon receiving the alert, a unit of the Fire Service rushed to the scene and battled the blaze for nearly two hours before bringing it under control. Firefighters worked through the night to prevent the fire from spreading further into adjacent commercial areas, which could have led to even greater destruction.
