MP Loses Shoe While Praying in Parliament

A light-hearted yet unusual incident unfolded within Bangladesh’s National Parliament when a Member of Parliament from Madaripur-1 constituency, Saeed Uddin Ahmad Hanzala, reported that he had lost one of his shoes while performing prayers inside the parliamentary premises.

The incident occurred on Monday evening (30 March) at around 9pm and was later shared by the MP himself through a post on his verified Facebook page, where he recounted the episode with humour and a sense of good will.

According to his post, the confusion arose after he completed his prayer session and realised that one of his shoes was missing, having been mistakenly swapped with another pair. He suggested that another individual may have unintentionally taken his shoe, while he may also have ended up wearing someone else’s in the process.

A humorous reflection from inside Parliament

In his social media statement, Hanzala described the incident as one of those “small, unusual but beautiful moments” in everyday life. He wrote that such occurrences, though minor, often serve as reminders of human fallibility and shared spaces.

He further expressed good wishes towards the unidentified individual who may have taken his shoe by mistake, praying that the person remains well and in good health. He added that if the post reached the person concerned, he would appreciate the return of his shoe, noting that the other pair had already been left in its place.

The MP’s tone remained notably light-hearted, as he chose to frame the situation not as a grievance but as an amusing coincidence arising in a busy public environment.

Incidents in public spaces

Although seemingly trivial, such occurrences are not uncommon in large public buildings where high footfall and shared facilities can occasionally lead to confusion over personal belongings. Parliamentary complexes, in particular, often host large numbers of lawmakers, staff, and visitors, especially during late evening sessions.

Officials familiar with parliamentary routines note that footwear mix-ups can happen in prayer areas, lobbies, and rest zones where multiple individuals gather at similar times. However, such incidents are rarely made public.

Many users interpreted the message as a reminder of everyday human errors occurring even in highly formal institutional settings.

While the matter itself involved no official complaint or procedural disruption, it offered a brief moment of levity within the typically serious atmosphere of parliamentary proceedings.

The incident highlights how small, personal experiences shared by public figures can quickly gain visibility online, often resonating with audiences far beyond their immediate context.
