Housewife’s body found at parental home, husband detained

A young housewife has been found dead in a field in Magura district of Bangladesh, in what police believe to be a premeditated killing allegedly carried out by her husband amid longstanding domestic disputes.

The body of 24-year-old Lima Khatun was recovered on Wednesday afternoon from a crop field in the village of Baro Udaspur under Shreepur upazila. The discovery sparked a swift police response, and her husband was subsequently taken into custody.

According to police statements made later in the evening, the husband, Sujon Sheikh (25), has reportedly confessed during preliminary interrogation to strangling his wife following a family dispute. The confession was disclosed at a press briefing held by Magura Superintendent of Police Molla Azad Hossain.

Police said the victim had travelled to her parental home on 30 March for a visit. Her husband allegedly contacted her on Tuesday evening and lured her to a secluded area before the incident took place.

A local farmer, Jamal Sheikh, first discovered the body at around 11:20 am while working in his field. He alerted villagers, following which the victim’s father identified the body. Officers from Shreepur Police Station later recovered the remains and sent them for post-mortem examination.

The condition of the body, which was found partially undressed with a rope around the neck, has intensified suspicions of foul play. Police have not ruled out sexual violence, although they have not yet confirmed this in the absence of forensic findings.

Speaking at the press conference, Superintendent Molla Azad Hossain described the case as a possible pre-planned murder. He stated that early evidence suggests the husband may have travelled to his in-laws’ residence with the intention of killing his wife, amid ongoing marital discord.

Investigators further revealed that the couple had been married for around seven years in what began as a love marriage. However, relatives and police accounts indicate that the relationship had deteriorated over time due to persistent domestic conflict.

Authorities confirmed that a formal murder case is being prepared, and legal procedures are underway to produce the accused before the court. Further investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing.

The incident has caused shock and anger in the local community, with residents calling for swift justice and stricter action in cases of domestic violence.
