Classic Bengali film songs are experiencing a modern revival, with contemporary artists blending beloved melodies into new musical creations. Leading this trend is Dolly Sayantani, who recently released two new tracks, one of which incorporates a portion of the iconic song “Ami Ekdin Tomay Na Dekhile”, originally performed by Runa Laila and Andrew Kishore.
The original song, written by Moniruzzaman Monir and composed by Alam Khan, was featured in the 1988 film Dui Jibon and has remained a timeless favourite among music lovers in Bangladesh. For her reinterpretation, Dolly has bridged the opening two lines of the classic with newly written lyrics by Sudip Kumar Deep, while Shamim Mahmud provided the musical arrangement. The song is performed as a duet with Ruslan Mezbah and has been titled “Ekdin Tomay Na Dekhile”.
Speaking about the project, Dolly said:
“The song Ami Ekdin Tomay Na Dekhile, sung by the revered Runa Laila Apa and Andrew Dada for Dui Jibon, has always been close to my heart. Its popularity has endured across generations, and I felt inspired to incorporate a part of this classic into my own song. I am delighted to release it on my channel and hope that the blend of old and new will delight listeners.”
Alongside this homage, Dolly has also released a completely original song titled “Moira Jodi Jaigo Ami”, written and composed by Rohan Raj. This track demonstrates her versatility, balancing reverence for iconic music with fresh and contemporary compositions.
