The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon (2 April) in the Garer Matha area, triggering panic among local commuters and renewed concerns over reckless driving on one of the country’s major transport corridors.

The deceased has been identified as Anisur Rahman (58), a resident of Rambhadra village under Bamandanga upazila in Gaibandha district. The injured passenger, Fatema Begum (60), is currently undergoing treatment in critical condition. Their exact relationship has not yet been officially confirmed by authorities.

According to eyewitness accounts and police reports, Anisur Rahman was travelling by motorcycle with the woman pillion passenger when they were struck from behind by a Dhaka-bound intercity bus. Fatema Begum sustained serious trauma and was first taken to Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex before being transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as her condition deteriorated.
