Storms and Hail Expected, Heatwave Likely to Ease

The ongoing mild to moderate heatwave across Bangladesh is expected to ease slightly over the coming days, as thunderstorms, heavy showers, and occasional hail are forecast in various regions. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has predicted that daytime and nighttime temperatures could drop by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius in some areas during the next five days.

Dr. Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallick, a senior meteorologist at BMD, issued the official forecast on Saturday, 4 April, highlighting the potential for gusty winds accompanied by rainfall and lightning in specific regions, while other areas may experience partly cloudy skies with mostly dry conditions.

The current heatwave is affecting several districts, including Dhaka, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Manikganj, Narayanganj, Rangamati, Chandpur, Barishal, and Patuakhali, as well as parts of Rajshahi and Khulna divisions, with mild to moderate intensity expected to continue in the short term.

Five-Day Weather Forecast (4–8 April)

Date Affected Regions Weather Conditions Temperature Trend
4 April Chattogram, Sylhet (isolated) Gusty winds with rainfall/thunderstorms Mostly unchanged nationwide
5 April Chattogram, Sylhet (isolated) Gusty winds with rainfall/thunderstorms Slight drop; heatwave eases in some areas
6 April Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, Sylhet (isolated) Gusty winds, thunderstorms, isolated hail Mostly unchanged nationwide
7 April Khulna, Barishal (some areas); Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram, Sylhet (isolated) Gusty winds, thunderstorms, scattered hail 1–2°C drop across the country
8 April Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Sylhet (some areas); Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram (isolated) Gusty winds, thunderstorms, scattered hail Mostly unchanged nationwide

The BMD has urged residents to remain cautious, particularly in areas prone to sudden storms and hail, as temporary gusty winds could disrupt daily activities. While most of the country will continue to experience dry weather with partly cloudy skies, localized disturbances may occur intermittently, contributing to minor fluctuations in temperature.

Overall, the heatwave that has gripped much of the country in recent weeks is likely to subside gradually, providing temporary relief from the high temperatures and making conditions slightly more comfortable for residents in affected regions.
