A road traffic collision involving a passenger bus and a pickup vehicle in Faridpur’s Bhanga Upazila has left two people dead and at least 29 others injured after a bus veered off the highway into a roadside ditch.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Monday (13 April) along the Faridpur–Barishal highway in the Bablatola Bus Stand area under Chumurdhi Union. According to highway police, a passenger bus operated by Shah Faridpur Paribahan was travelling from Faridpur towards Madaripur when it collided head-on with a watermelon-laden pickup vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
Following the impact, the bus lost control and fell into a ditch beside the highway. The front section of the pickup was also severely damaged due to the collision.
The deceased were identified as Jahangir Molla (40), son of Seken Molla, and Almgir Sheikh (50), son of Nesar Uddin Sheikh. Both were residents of Koidubi Sadardi Mahalla in Bhanga municipality and were engaged in the watermelon trade.
Emergency responders from the Bhanga Fire Service and highway police carried out rescue operations and transported the injured to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex. Medical authorities later confirmed the deaths of two individuals.
According to Bhanga Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Md Helal Uddin, the collision occurred between the bus and the pickup vehicle, after which the bus overturned into the roadside ditch. He confirmed that the pickup was also severely damaged in the crash.
Fire Service Station Manager Abu Jafar stated that around 30 injured individuals were initially rescued from the scene and taken to the Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Bhanga Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Tanziv Zubair reported that 29 injured persons were admitted to the facility. Among them, 28 were passengers of the bus and one was the driver of the pickup vehicle. Of the injured, 12 individuals with serious conditions were transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, while the remaining patients received primary care, with some later discharged.

Authorities confirmed that rescue and recovery operations were conducted immediately following the collision, and the highway route was later cleared for traffic movement.
