Man Found Dead in Hotel Room

Police have recovered the body of a 38-year-old man from a residential hotel in the capital’s Mohakhali area, in what is initially suspected to be a case of suicide.

The deceased, identified as Ashraful, was found late on Sunday night inside a room on the fifth floor of Hotel Jahad, located in the Amtoli এলাকায় of Mohakhali. According to police, the body was discovered hanging in Room 20 after hotel authorities alerted law enforcement officials.

Sub-Inspector Md Nazmul Hasan of Banani Police Station, who conducted the inquest, stated that the police were informed by hotel management when repeated attempts to contact the occupant failed. Upon arrival, officers forced open the locked door and found Ashraful’s body suspended from the ceiling.

The body was subsequently recovered at approximately midnight and sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Monday for a post-mortem examination. Authorities indicated that the findings of the autopsy would be crucial in confirming the exact cause of death.

Preliminary observations suggest that the deceased may have taken his own life by hanging. However, police officials emphasised that a comprehensive investigation is underway to rule out any alternative circumstances surrounding the incident.

Ashraful was a resident of Shilashi village in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh district. He worked professionally as a carpenter and had reportedly been staying at the hotel prior to the incident. No suicide note was immediately recovered from the scene, and the motive behind the suspected act remains unclear.

Law enforcement authorities are currently gathering further information, including statements from hotel staff and any available records, to establish a clearer timeline of events leading up to the discovery. Investigators are also examining whether the deceased had any prior history of mental distress or other factors that may have contributed to the incident.

The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding mental health awareness and the need for timely intervention, particularly among individuals living away from their families for work. Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any unusual behaviour or incidents promptly, as the investigation continues.
