Son Kills Father in Demra

A man named Israfil (55) was killed following a stabbing incident allegedly involving his teenage son in the Demra area of Dhaka, according to police. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 am on Monday at a rented residence in North Bazar, Demra. The accused son, Noor Hossain (16), has reportedly fled the scene and remains at large.

The deceased, Israfil, was originally from Sutapara village in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj district. He had been living with his family in a rented house in the North Bazar area of Demra. He was employed as a night guard and is reported to have had three children—two sons and one daughter.

According to relatives, differing accounts have emerged regarding the circumstances leading to the fatal incident. A nephew of the deceased, Jibon Khandaker, stated that Israfil had issues related to drug consumption and had reportedly asked his wife for money to support his habit. This request allegedly led to an argument and physical altercation with his younger son, Noor Hossain, during which Israfil sustained a stab wound to the chest and died.

However, the deceased’s wife, Suriya Begum, provided a different version of events. She stated that the dispute began in the early morning when her husband asked her for money. A quarrel subsequently developed with their younger son, during which a struggle ensued. She claimed that the stabbing occurred accidentally when her husband was struck by his own knife during the scuffle.

Police officials confirmed that the body was recovered several hours after the incident. Sub-Inspector Abdul Majid of Demra Police Station stated that officers were informed of the matter and recovered the body at around 11:00 am. Following necessary legal procedures, the remains were sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at approximately 1:45 pm for post-mortem examination. He also noted that, as of the time of reporting, no formal complaint had been lodged by the family.

Local residents similarly reported that the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute linked to financial demands and personal conflict within the household. Authorities have indicated that the investigation is ongoing and efforts are underway to locate the absconding suspect.
