Mother murdered in house break-in, injured child survives by playing dead

A woman was killed and her eight-year-old son seriously injured after assailants attacked them at their home in Shibpur Union under Bhola Sadar Upazila. The incident occurred late on Friday night at the Sharif Sardar residence in Ward No. 6 of the union.

The deceased has been identified as Nasima Begum. Her injured son, Abir Hossain, is receiving treatment at Bhola Sadar Hospital. Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination as part of standard investigative procedures.

Nasima Begum was the second wife of expatriate Md Al-Amin Mia, who resides in the United Arab Emirates. She lived with her only son in a room at the Sharif Sardar household.

According to police and local accounts, the attack took place while the mother and son were asleep after having dinner at night. Assailants reportedly entered the room and attacked Nasima Begum with sharp weapons, resulting in her death. Her son was also severely injured, sustaining multiple wounds across his body.

In his statement to police, the injured child alleged that he pretended to be dead during the attack, which led the assailants to leave the scene. He later managed to leave the house in the early morning hours and raised an alarm, alerting nearby residents.

Following his account, the child named Jihad (23), son of the late former Union Parishad member Md Jamal Uddin, as one of the individuals involved. Police subsequently detained Jihad for questioning.

Local residents reported that the room was found ransacked after the incident. It is also known that Nasima Begum had taken a loan of approximately one lakh taka from a non-governmental organisation for house renovation purposes. After the incident, the money was not found in the house, and it is suspected that valuables may have been stolen.

Neighbour Nazim Uddin stated that the injured child arrived at their home in critical condition and informed them about the attack. Residents then contacted the national emergency service and informed the police. Officers arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and ensured the injured child was transported to hospital.

Police from Bhola Sadar Model Police Station confirmed that they visited the scene, completed the inquest report, and initiated legal procedures. One individual has been detained for interrogation, and further investigation is ongoing.
