A violent attack targeting residential homes and business premises has been reported in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj, leaving several people injured and property extensively damaged. The incident took place on Saturday night (18 April) in the Sarker Bari area under Golakandail Union.
According to local accounts, a group of assailants allegedly linked to a so-called “youth gang” carried out the attack around 9:00 pm, escalating from a prior dispute at a rented garage used for commercial purposes. The confrontation is said to have begun when individuals identified by residents as associated with local troublemakers gathered in front of the garage, allegedly creating disorder and intimidation in the area.
Eyewitnesses and complainants stated that objections raised by local residents triggered further tension. In response, a larger group of approximately 30 to 40 individuals reportedly launched a coordinated assault on the property belonging to Shahadat Hossain Akash, as well as surrounding homes.
During the attack, multiple residents were reportedly struck with sharp weapons and beaten with sticks. At least eight people sustained injuries of varying severity. The assailants also allegedly vandalised the garage and nearby residences, damaging vehicles and security equipment, and looting valuables before fleeing the scene.

Victim Aleya Akhtar stated that her family’s garage business had been operating in the area on rented land, and that repeated confrontations with the group had previously raised tensions. She alleged that known local figures, described by residents as associated with organised youth groups, were involved in the incident.
The accused individuals, when contacted informally, denied all allegations and claimed that the accusations were false and politically motivated.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that a formal complaint has been received. The Officer-in-Charge of Rupganj Police Station stated that the matter is under investigation and that appropriate legal action will be taken following a thorough inquiry.
Authorities are expected to assess CCTV footage where available and gather witness statements as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident, which has raised concerns over local safety and law and order.
