Two separate deaths involving train accidents have been reported in the Charghat area of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, within a span of less than 24 hours, according to railway police and local sources.
The first incident occurred on Tuesday morning at approximately 8:45 am near the Holidagachi level crossing under Sholua Union. A woman, estimated to be around 35 years old and yet to be identified, was struck by the Rajshahi–Khulna bound Mahananda Express. Eyewitness accounts suggest that she suddenly came onto the tracks as the train approached. The impact was fatal and resulted in severe bodily dismemberment. Despite efforts by bystanders to identify her, no personal details could be confirmed at the scene. Local residents indicated the possibility of suicide, though authorities have not issued a final determination regarding the cause of death.
In a separate incident on Monday night, a 25-year-old man named Sohel, son of Julum Pramanik from Kalabipara village under Nimapara Union, died after being struck by a train in the Habibpur area. Reports indicate that the accident took place near the Kalabipara section of the railway line. The young man suffered catastrophic injuries, including the loss of one leg. Local sources claimed he may have been under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the incident. His body was later recovered and buried at the local graveyard following necessary procedures.
Railway police confirmed that both incidents are under investigation. Officers from Ishwardi Railway Police Station have visited the scenes and initiated formal inquiries. The Station Master of Sarada Station, Iqbal Kabir, stated that preliminary findings suggest the woman may have died by suicide, while the young man was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the accident. However, official post-mortem reports are expected to provide further clarity.
