Selima Rahman, a senior member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee, has secured the party’s nomination for a reserved women’s seat in the National Parliament for the third time. Rahman previously represented the BNP in the parliament following the general elections of 1991 and 2001, representing the Barisal region. For the upcoming parliamentary session, the party has once again nominated her from the same constituency.
According to the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission (EC), an analysis of Selima Rahman’s tax return from December 2025 reveals total assets valued at BDT 68,895,737. Despite listing her profession as “politics,” the veteran leader maintains a diverse portfolio of movable and immovable property.
The affidavit details a residential property spanning 10,612 square feet, valued at BDT 26,245,195. However, the official documentation does not specify the precise location or the specific category of the building. In terms of annual revenue, Rahman earns BDT 792,000 from immovable properties, including houses and apartments.
Rahman’s liquid assets constitute a significant portion of her wealth. She reported holding BDT 7,099,775 in cash, while her bank deposits amount to BDT 31,770,767. Additionally, her financial investments are valued at BDT 2,811,239.
Regarding personal effects and transport, the acquisition cost of her vehicle was recorded at BDT 3,580,000, though the make and model were omitted from the filing. Her holdings also include 30 bhoris of gold (approximately 350 grams), with a historical purchase price of BDT 50,000, and furniture valued at BDT 150,000.
| Asset Category | Description | Value (BDT) |
| Cash on Hand | Liquid currency | 7,099,775 |
| Bank Deposits | Funds in various accounts | 31,770,767 |
| Immovable Property | 10,612 sq. ft. building | 26,245,195 |
| Investments | Various financial instruments | 2,811,239 |
| Transport | Motor vehicle (purchase price) | 3,580,000 |
| Gold/Jewellery | 30 Bhoris (purchase price) | 50,000 |
| Furniture | Household items | 150,000 |
| Total Assets | 68,895,737 |
The affidavit further outlines Rahman’s financial liabilities. Her total debt is primarily composed of three components:
Advance payments received for the sale of a flat, totalling BDT 22,000,000.
Personal loans taken from her daughter, amounting to BDT 12,000,000.
Outstanding dues related to house rent, calculated at BDT 930,000.
The judicial record of the BNP leader shows a significant shift in recent months. In 2015, during the tenure of the Awami League government, a total of eight criminal cases were filed against her. Following the “July Mass Uprising” and the subsequent change in the political landscape, these cases were withdrawn via executive order. According to the documents submitted to the Election Commission, Selima Rahman currently faces no active legal proceedings or pending charges.
This nomination marks her return to the legislative fold after over two decades since her last term ended, solidifying her position as a central figure in the BNP’s parliamentary representation for Barisal.
