The Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed an unprecedented surge in run-scoring on Saturday as multiple long-standing records were dismantled across two high-scoring fixtures. In a combined total of 77.2 overs delivered in Delhi and Jaipur, a staggering 986 runs were recorded, marking the highest aggregate of runs ever produced in a single day in the tournament’s history. This surpasses the previous daily record of 899 runs established on 27 April 2024.

Unprecedented Boundary and Scoring Statistics

The sheer volume of scoring was driven by an extraordinary display of power hitting, with 59 sixes struck across the two matches. This figure represents a new IPL record for the most sixes in a single day, eclipsing the previous benchmark of 53 sixes recorded twice on 4 May and 25 May 2025.

In Delhi, the match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings contributed 529 runs to the daily total. Meanwhile, in Jaipur, the clash between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad saw 457 runs scored. The statistical breakdown of the day’s record-breaking feats is as follows:

Individual Brilliance and Historical Chases

At the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi Capitals’ opener KL Rahul produced a historic performance against Punjab Kings. Rahul remained unbeaten on 152 runs from just 67 deliveries, marking the highest individual score by an Indian in the IPL and the third-highest overall. He reached his century in just 47 balls. Despite Delhi posting a formidable 264 runs—the highest in their franchise history—it proved insufficient. Punjab Kings executed the highest successful run chase in the history of recognized T20 cricket, securing a six-wicket victory with seven balls to spare, led by Prabhsimran Singh’s 76 and captain Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten 71.

The Rise of Vaibhav Suryavanshi

In the evening fixture at Jaipur, 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a remarkable performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Facing Praful Hinje—the bowler who had dismissed him for a duck in their previous encounter—Suryavanshi struck four sixes in the opening over of the match. This set a new IPL record for most sixes in the first over. Suryavanshi’s innings included a 15-ball half-century and a 36-ball century.
