Body Found in Kadamtoli Flat

The decomposed body of a 27-year-old female Ansar member, identified as Sharmin Akter, was recovered from a rented apartment in the Kadamtoli area of Dhaka, prompting a police investigation into a suspected homicide.

According to law enforcement officials, the body was discovered on Sunday afternoon after residents alerted emergency services through the national emergency helpline 999. Police said the victim had been living in the fourth-floor flat of a building located on Jurain Commissioner Road.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the room locked from the outside. A strong odour was emanating from inside the apartment, raising immediate concern. After breaking open the lock in the presence of local residents, police entered the room and found Sharmin Akter’s decomposed body lying on the floor. Officials noted visible injury marks on different parts of her body, strengthening suspicions of foul play.

The body was later sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday night for autopsy to determine the exact cause and time of death.

Police have stated that preliminary findings suggest the victim may have been murdered and the perpetrator subsequently locked the room from outside before fleeing the scene. However, authorities have emphasised that the post-mortem examination will be crucial in confirming the cause of death.

Sharmin was reportedly employed as a member of the Ansar force. Her identification card, recovered from the room, confirmed her profession and provided her address as being in the Purba Dholai area of Shyampur.

The landlord, Anjuwara Dolly, informed police that the victim had been residing in the flat for approximately seven to eight months, along with a man who was introduced as her husband. However, she added that she did not know the man’s full identity. Since the incident, the male tenant has not been found, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

Police officials from Kadamtoli Police Station, including Sub-Inspector Mushahidul Islam, confirmed that they responded to the scene following the 999 alert and are now actively investigating the matter. They also stated that the victim’s family has been informed and further details are expected to emerge once they arrive in Dhaka and provide additional information.
