Old Question Papers Used in Bogura Dakhil Exam, Five Suspended

A three-member investigation committee has been formed following an incident in which a Dakhil Mathematics examination in Sherpur Upazila of Bogura District was conducted using question papers from an outdated syllabus. In addition, five officials, including the hall superintendent and four invigilators, have been relieved of their duties over alleged negligence.

The development was confirmed on Monday evening by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Md Saeeduzzaman Himu.

The incident occurred at the Sherpur Shahidia Alia Kamil Madrasa examination centre, where candidates sat for the Dakhil (Secondary School Certificate equivalent under the madrasa education system in Bangladesh) Mathematics examination in rooms 101 and 102. A total of 29 students participated in the examination. According to records, 10 students were from Fulthola Dakhil Madrasa, 13 from Rajardighi, three from Chaksadir, and three from Ulipur Ameria Madrasa. All candidates were regular students following the revised syllabus.

Students reported that after the examination began, they were handed question papers based on the 2025 old syllabus, despite being prepared under the updated curriculum. The examination proceeded with these papers, and the candidates left the centre upon completion. The discrepancy was discovered later when the students returned home and informed their respective families and institutions, prompting concern and anger among guardians. They subsequently demanded a proper investigation and accountability for those responsible, also expressing uncertainty regarding the potential impact on results.

The centre secretary and principal of Sherpur Shahidia Alia Kamil Madrasa, Hafizur Rahman, acknowledged the mistake, describing it as unintentional. He stated that the issue went unnoticed during the examination and was only identified afterwards. He further mentioned that he had communicated with the relevant madrasa education authorities and assured that the students’ results would not be adversely affected.

In response to the incident, authorities have formed a three-member investigation committee comprising Md Nazrul Islam, Upazila Secondary Education Officer; Abdul Jobbar, Upazila Project Implementation Officer; and Md Zakir Hossain, Academic Supervisor of the Education Office.

Separately, five officials have been relieved of their examination duties due to alleged negligence. Their details are as follows:

Name Role
Haydar Ali Hall Superintendent
Hasna Khatun Invigilator
Zobeda Khatun Invigilator
Kowshar Ahmed Invigilator
Mamunur Rashid Invigilator

According to the UNO, discussions have been held with relevant board officials to ensure that the affected students do not suffer academically as a result of the error. He added that despite this assurance, a formal investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances leading to the incident and to ensure administrative accountability.
