Triple Killing in Faridpur Village

A violent incident in Faridpur Sadar has led to the deaths of three individuals, allegedly killed with a spade by a young man identified as Akash Molla. The incident has prompted a police investigation, the filing of a murder case, and a review of the suspect’s mental health condition.

According to police reports, the attack took place on Monday night, 27 April, at around 9:00 pm in Gadadhardangi village under Aliabad Union. The accused allegedly launched a sudden and indiscriminate assault using a spade, resulting in the immediate deaths of three people and leaving another critically injured.

The deceased have been identified as Rahela Begum (50), the suspect’s paternal aunt; Amena Begum (75), his grandmother; and a neighbour, Kabul (45). Another neighbour, Riaz Molla (45), sustained serious injuries in the attack and has since received hospital treatment.

Following the incident, a joint team of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police conducted an operation and arrested Akash Molla (28) early Tuesday morning at approximately 5:45 am. He was apprehended from a betel leaf plantation near the residence of a local resident named Liakat. Officers also recovered a blood-stained spade from his possession.

A murder case was subsequently filed at Kotwali Police Station by Kohinur Begum, the wife of one of the deceased victims, Kabul. The accused was produced before a court on Tuesday afternoon.

Faridpur District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Nazrul Islam confirmed the details at a press briefing held at his office conference room. He stated that law enforcement agencies had acted promptly following the incident and initiated all necessary legal procedures, including the preparation of an inquest report at the scene.

Police have indicated that the accused will be subjected to further interrogation, alongside a formal assessment of his mental condition. Initial observations suggest that his behaviour during custody was incoherent, prompting investigators to consider psychological factors as part of the inquiry.

Officials from the Rapid Action Battalion’s Faridpur camp, including Assistant Superintendent of Police Gazi Lutfor Rahman, noted that the suspect’s location was confirmed through coordinated intelligence efforts before the arrest was made. His inconsistent speech during detention has also been documented as part of the investigation.

Locals reported that Akash Molla had previously worked at a tuberculosis treatment centre in Faridpur but later lost his job reportedly due to mental instability. In recent months, he had largely remained at home, occasionally wandering away before being brought back by family members. Authorities are also examining whether any domestic or social tensions contributed to the incident.

Police have stated that further investigative steps will be determined based on ongoing evidence collection and forensic analysis.
