Police in Bhuyapur upazila of Tangail district have arrested four individuals in connection with preparations for a planned robbery, recovering a range of locally made weapons and tools allegedly intended for criminal use.
According to police, the arrests were made on Monday night (4 May) from the ground floor of a house belonging to one Nazrul in the Ghatanndi Notun Para area of the upazila. Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement officers conducted the operation at around 10:30 pm, leading to the detention of the suspects. Several other individuals, reportedly present at the scene, managed to flee upon sensing the police presence.
The arrested persons have been identified as Robiul (38), son of Ahsan Ali Akand of Bholarpara village in Gopalpur upazila; Monir, also known as “Nangra Monir” (38), son of Golam Hossain of Kukadair village in Bhuyapur upazila; Shah Alam (45), son of Shamsul Haque of Shyamsail village in Kalihati upazila; and Masud (32), son of A. Aziz of the same village in Kalihati upazila.
Police stated that a number of items believed to have been prepared for use in robbery were seized during the operation. These include iron cutters, cutting pliers, chains, scissors, a switchblade, knives and machetes. Authorities said the equipment was consistent with tools typically used in organised robbery attempts.
Local residents reportedly described the arrested individuals as active members of an organised criminal group involved in robbery-related activities in the region. Bhuyapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Sabbir Rahman confirmed that the detained individuals have multiple prior cases filed against them in different police stations across the country, including allegations related to robbery, dacoity, drugs, and murder. He further stated that during preliminary questioning, the arrested suspects admitted to their involvement in planning the robbery.
Following the arrests, a case has been filed at Bhuyapur Police Station under charges of preparing for robbery. The accused have since been sent to court as part of the legal proceedings.
The operation forms part of ongoing law enforcement efforts in the region to prevent organised criminal activity, particularly offences involving group-based robbery attempts. Police have indicated that efforts are continuing to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects who fled the scene during the raid.
