A road traffic collision in Uzirpur, Barishal, has resulted in the deaths of a grandmother and her granddaughter on Tuesday (5 May) at approximately 12:30 pm. The incident took place in the Joyshree Bus Stand area along the Dhaka–Barishal Highway.
The deceased have been identified as Rokshana Yasmin (65), wife of the late Pannu Kazi of West Joyshree village, and her granddaughter Arfa Akter (7).
According to local sources and police, a Barishal-bound bus of Hanif Paribahan, which had departed from Dhaka, struck the two pedestrians while attempting to cross the road. The vehicle was identified as registration number Dhaka Metro-B-12-3671. The bus was reportedly moving at speed when the collision occurred at the highway crossing point near Joyshree Bus Stand.
Both Rokshana Yasmin and the child sustained serious injuries as a result of the impact. Local residents subsequently rescued them from the scene and transported them to Uzirpur Upazila Health Complex. Medical personnel on duty declared both individuals dead upon arrival.
Arfa Akter was a student of West Joyshree Government Primary School. On the day of the incident, she had reportedly completed her classes and was returning home when the collision occurred.
Her father, Rubel Kazi, is currently employed abroad in Malaysia as a migrant worker.

Officer-in-Charge of Gournadi Highway Police Station, Mohsin Hossain, stated that no written complaint had been received from the victim’s family at the time of reporting. He added that further legal action would be taken in accordance with procedures once a formal complaint is lodged.
The bodies were handed over following completion of necessary procedures.
