On the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, Bangladesh Television’s widely acclaimed magazine programme Ananda Mela is set to deliver a special treat for viewers, bringing together two of the country’s most celebrated vocalists—Runa Laila and Baby Naznin—on the same stage for the very first time in a single episode.
The festive edition marks a notable moment in the programme’s long-running history, as both artistes have previously appeared individually on Ananda Mela, but never together within one instalment. This year’s Eid special has been designed with a refreshed creative vision, combining music, dance, drama, and special performances to enhance audience engagement during the holiday celebrations.
As part of the musical highlights, Runa Laila will perform one of her timeless classics, “Ei Brishti Veja Raate Chole Jeo Na”, while Baby Naznin will render her popular hit “Kal Shararat”. Both performances are expected to evoke nostalgia among long-time listeners while appealing to newer audiences as well.
According to the organisers, Ananda Mela continues to remain a flagship entertainment programme for Bangladeshi viewers, particularly during major festivals, where it traditionally presents a blend of cultural and contemporary performances.
Runa Laila noted that audiences tend to show heightened interest in festive productions, and she has revisited one of her most cherished songs with that sentiment in mind, hoping it resonates strongly with viewers. Baby Naznin expressed similar enthusiasm, stating that “Kal Shararat” still retains its emotional and musical appeal despite the passage of time, and reperforming it for the Eid special has been a personally fulfilling experience.
Beyond the musical segments, the episode will also feature choreographed dance performances and dramatic interludes. Renowned actress and dancer Sadia Islam Mou will lead a dance troupe in a specially curated performance, while another segment will feature appearances by Mehazabien Chowdhury and Sabila Nur. A reinterpretation of a popular 1980s pop song, performed by Ferdous Wahid, is also included in the line-up. Additionally, several other well-known performers, including Porimoni, are expected to appear across different segments. The programme is hosted by Afran Nisho.
The Eid-ul-Azha special episode of Ananda Mela will be broadcast on Bangladesh Television on the first day of Eid, promising a varied and festive entertainment package for viewers across the country.
