A joint operation conducted by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 led to the recovery of two illegal firearms abandoned in the Raujane area of Chattogram. The recovered weapons include a single-barrel gun and a double-barrel pipe gun, both found in a deserted condition during a targeted drive carried out on Monday morning (18 May) in the Noapara locality of the upazila.
According to RAB-7 officials, the operation was launched based on confidential intelligence indicating the possible presence of illegal arms in the area. Acting swiftly on the information, a specialised team conducted a search operation in and around the suspected location, ultimately recovering the firearms from an isolated spot. Authorities confirmed that no individuals were found in possession of the weapons at the time of recovery.
Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-7, A. R. M. Mozzafar Hossain, stated that the recovery was made as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms circulation and maintain public safety in the region. He further noted that the ownership and intended use of the recovered firearms have not yet been established. Investigations are currently underway to identify those responsible for abandoning or possessing the weapons.
Following the recovery, the seized firearms were handed over to Raujane Police Station for further legal procedures and investigative follow-up. Law enforcement officials emphasised that such operations are part of a broader security strategy aimed at preventing criminal activities and ensuring stability in areas previously identified as sensitive to illegal arms movement.
Authorities have reiterated that intelligence-led operations will continue in Chattogram and surrounding districts to trace illicit weapons networks and deter potential criminal misuse.
