A devastating road traffic accident involving a speeding passenger coach and a compressed natural gas (CNG) powered auto-rickshaw has claimed the lives of three individuals, including the driver of the three-wheeled vehicle. The fatal collision transpired on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, at approximately 18:30, directly on the busy Dhaka-Rajshahi highway. The location of the incident was specified as being directly in front of the headquarters of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-12) in the Solanga area under Sirajganj district.
Following the collision, emergency services and local authorities managed to establish the identities of two out of the three deceased victims. The identified individuals include Sorman Hossain, aged 35, who was operating the commercial auto-rickshaw and hailed from the local Solanga vicinity. The second identified casualty was Gobinda Sutradhar, aged 40, a carpenter by profession residing in the nearby Angaru village within the same region. The administrative authorities stated that the formal identity of the third passenger could not be immediately determined at the scene of the crash.
According to formal statements provided by local eyewitnesses who observed the incident unfold, the CNG-powered auto-rickshaw had originally commenced its journey from the Hatikumrul area. The driver had boarded two passengers and was actively navigating the vehicle towards its intended destination in Tarash. The trip proceeded without any initial disruption until the three-wheeled vehicle reached the high-speed corridor adjacent to the RAB-12 headquarters.
As the auto-rickshaw traveled along the designated lane of the highway, a fast-moving passenger bus approaching rapidly from the rear violently struck the smaller vehicle. The sheer physical momentum of the impact caused the auto-rickshaw operator to completely lose mechanical control. The vehicle overturned repeatedly on the tarmac of the highway, causing catastrophic structural damage to the passenger cabin and inflicting critical, life-threatening internal and external injuries upon the driver and both commuters on board.
Immediately following the loud impact, local residents and passers-by rushed to the location to initiate emergency rescue operations. The bystanders managed to extract the three critically injured men from the mangled steel framework of the overturned auto-rickshaw and arranged for their immediate transport to a nearby hospital facility. However, upon arrival at the medical institution, the clinical team on duty conducted immediate diagnostic evaluations and officially declared all three individuals deceased.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Hatikumrul Highway Police Station, Ismail Hossain, formally confirmed the occurrence of the fatal accident to media representatives. He noted that the offending passenger bus fled the area at high speed immediately after striking the three-wheeled vehicle, escaping further accountability at that specific time.
Upon receiving formal notification of the highway disaster, active contingents from the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence promptly arrived at the location to assist. They systematically recovered the bodies of the victims from the scene, while an injured individual was formally routed to the hospital. Law enforcement officials have launched a investigation to identify the transport company involved and track down the fugitive driver.
