Three Suspects Arrested Following Murder Of Schoolgirl

An intensive police investigation has led to the rapid resolution of a criminal case involving the sexual assault and murder of a ninth-grade schoolgirl. The incident, which took place in the Pabna district of northwestern Bangladesh, resulted in the recovery of the victim’s concealed remains from a river bank. Law enforcement agencies successfully identified the primary suspects within hours of discovering the body.

The details of the criminal investigation were disclosed during an official press conference held on Wednesday afternoon, 3 June 2026, outside the office of the Pabna District Superintendent of Police. Addressing the media, the Additional Superintendent of Police for Pabna, Rezinur Rahman, outlined the sequence of events and the subsequent operational breakthroughs achieved by the local police department.

Sequence of Events and Crime Discovery

According to the official police briefing, the deceased victim was a ninth-grade student at a local secondary school and a resident of the Bharara union within Pabna Sadar sub-district. Investigators established that the victim had been in a romantic relationship with her cousin, an individual named Naim.

On Tuesday evening, a verbal dispute transpired between the teenage girl and Naim inside the latter’s residential property. The confrontation escalated significantly, culminating in Naim committing a physical assault against the victim. Police confirmed that Naim sexually assaulted the student before killing her by manual strangulation.

Following the murder, Naim sought the assistance of several accomplices to systematically conceal the evidence of the crime. The perpetrators bound the hands and feet of the victim, wrapped a marketplace shopping bag tightly around her neck, and placed the body into a large sack.

The suspects then loaded the sack containing the remains into a private car and drove to the riverbank in the Pirpur area of the Bharara union, where they discarded the cargo into the Padma River.

The crime came to light on Wednesday morning when local agricultural labourers, traveling to work along the sandbanks of the Padma River in Pirpur, observed a suspicious sack floating adjacent to a moored boat. Upon opening the sack, the local residents discovered the bound body of the missing schoolgirl and immediately alerted the local police station. Law enforcement officers arrived promptly at the scene to recover the body and secure the immediate perimeter for forensic processing.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Following the recovery of the unidentified body on Wednesday morning, all specialized operational units of the Pabna District Police were mobilised to resolve the case. Detectives utilised closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage recorded in the surrounding areas alongside advanced information technology assets to trace the vehicle movements and establish the identities of those involved.

The coordinated police raids resulted in the successful apprehension of three individuals directly connected to the crime. The primary accused has been identified as Naim, a resident of the Purba Raghupur area.

The two additional detainees, identified as Yasin Shekh and Tuhin Pramanik, also reside within the same locality and are accused of assisting in the transport and disposal of the victim’s body. Furthermore, police personnel successfully located and seized the private car utilized by the suspects during the commission of the offence.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rezinur Rahman stated during the press briefing that although the suspects have been taken into state custody, the victim’s family has not yet filed a formal written complaint (Ejahar) at the police station. The official assured the public that a statutory criminal case would be registered immediately upon the receipt of the formal written statement from the family.

The remains of the deceased student have been sent to the local hospital morgue for a mandatory post-mortem examination to obtain conclusive medical evidence.
