A senior assistant schoolteacher has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody in the northwestern district of Chapainawabganj, Bangladesh, following grave allegations of repeatedly raping an eighth-grade female student under his tutelage.
The accused, identified as 45-year-old Mizanur Rahman, is a faculty member at Nawabganj High School, colloquially known as Town High School, located within the district capital. The victim is a 14-year-old adolescent girl who attended the same institution. Following a formal complaint lodged by the victim’s distraught family, police apprehended the suspect and presented him before a local court on Thursday, 4th June, which subsequently ordered his immediate transfer to prison pending trial.
According to police sources, family statements, and accounts provided by the traumatised victim, the abuse began in 2024. It is alleged that Rahman exploited his authoritative position as an educator, using the pretext of private tuition sessions to isolate and repeatedly assault the young girl.
To ensure her silence, the educator allegedly subjected the vulnerable student to persistent intimidation and psychological coercion, threatening severe repercussions if she disclosed the abuse to anyone. Overwhelmed by the ongoing trauma, the teenager eventually confided in her parents, revealing the horrific ordeal she had been enduring over the past two years.
The revelation sparked widespread indignation across the local community. Upon learning of the systemic abuse perpetrated by a trusted member of the faculty, an incensed mob of local residents confronted Rahman, subjecting him to a severe physical assault.
Law enforcement officials swiftly intervened to de-escalate the volatile situation. Officers from the Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station took the injured schoolteacher into protective custody. Due to the injuries sustained during the public backlash, Rahman was hospitalised at the 250-bed Chapainawabganj District Hospital, where he received medical treatment under strict police guard before being deemed fit for legal processing.
Ekramul Hossain, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed that a formal case had been registered against the accused under the relevant sections of the law.
“The formal deposition submitted by the victim’s family specifically highlights a critical escalation of the offences occurring in October 2025, alongside the historical pattern dating back to 2024,” OC Hossain stated. “Following his discharge from the medical facility, the suspect was produced before the magistrate on Thursday afternoon. The court denied bail and ordered that he be remanded in jail as the investigation proceeds.”
Authorities have assured the public that a rigorous, transparent investigation will be conducted, with medical evaluations for both the victim and the accused being prioritised to secure forensic evidence for the upcoming trial.
