Woman Found Dead in Sirajganj Home

A 22-year-old woman was found dead at her family home in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj, prompting an investigation by local police into the circumstances surrounding her death.

The deceased, identified as Sabia Khatun, was the daughter of Shafiqul Islam of Nadosaidpur Bahirpara village under Magura Binod Union. Her body was recovered from the family residence on Sunday morning.

According to police officials and local residents, Sabia had recently gone through a divorce and had been living with her parents following the separation. Family members reported that she had appeared distressed in recent weeks, although the exact nature of her emotional condition has yet to be formally established.

Relatives said that on Saturday night they repeatedly called Sabia to join the family meal. When she failed to respond, they entered her room and discovered her hanging from a beam inside the house with a rope around her neck. The family subsequently informed the authorities.

Police officers arrived at the scene on Sunday morning and recovered the body. As part of the standard legal procedure in cases of unnatural death, the remains were sent to the morgue of Sirajganj Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Tarash Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Habibur Rahman confirmed the recovery of the body and said preliminary information suggested that the young woman had been experiencing mental distress related to her divorce and other family matters. However, he stressed that the precise cause and circumstances of death would only be determined after the post-mortem report is received.

“The body has been sent for autopsy. The actual cause of death will be known after the forensic examination report is submitted,” the officer said.

Police have registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case and are continuing the investigation. Authorities are expected to examine the post-mortem findings, statements from family members and any other relevant evidence before reaching a final conclusion regarding the incident.

The case has drawn attention within the local community, where residents expressed shock at the death of the young woman. Investigators have urged the public to avoid speculation until the forensic and legal processes are completed.
