Former Politician Murdered During Arbitration In Capital

A former leader of the Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, identified as Billal Hossain Talukdar, aged 57, has been stabbed to death during an arbitration meeting in the Mouchak area of Ramna, Dhaka. The deceased was the former convener of the Ramna Thana unit of the Swechchhasebak Dal. The targeted physical assault took place on Monday, 8 June, at approximately 8:00 pm in front of the Mouchak Anarkali Market. Following the stabbing, the victim was rescued in a critical state and transported directly to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the attending doctor on duty officially pronounced him dead at around 9:15 pm.

Incident Origins and Family Accounts

The deceased individual, Billal Hossain Talukdar, was a permanent resident of the Malibagh Baganbari area within the capital and ran a local business dealing in sand and cement supplies. He was the son of the late Yunus Talukdar. According to verified organizational sources, Billal Hossain also previously served as the convener of the Ward No. 19 unit of the Swechchhasebak Dal under Ramna Thana. Political records indicate that he had been officially expelled from the political organization following his arrest in September of last year in connection with a criminal case involving an attack and vandalism at the Shohag Paribahan transport office located in Malibagh.

Providing a detailed description of the circumstances leading up to the murder, the nephew of the deceased, Md Mobarak Hossain Akash, who assisted in rescuing Billal Hossain and transporting him to the hospital, explained that a group of men had initially assaulted him in front of the Anarkali Market earlier in the evening.

Upon receiving information about the physical altercation involving his nephew, Billal Hossain arrived at the location to intervene. At approximately 8:00 pm, a formal arbitration assembly was convened directly in front of the market premises to settle and resolve the dispute surrounding the prior assault.

Fatal Confrontation During The Dispute Resolution

Mobarak Hossain further stated that during the active arbitration proceedings, a severe verbal argument erupted between his uncle, Billal Hossain, and two prominent local political figures. The individuals involved in the heated dispute were identified as Didarul Islam Babu, the convener of the Ramna Thana unit of the Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, and Lutfar, the secretary of the same Ramna Thana unit.

According to the witness statement, at a certain stage of the escalating verbal altercation, a group of followers led directly by Babu launched a physical attack and stabbed Billal Hossain in the chest. As a direct consequence of the severe penetrating wound, the victim collapsed immediately onto the ground.

Police Mobilisation and Judicial Procedures

The Assistant Commissioner of Police for the Ramna Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), identified as Mazahar, formally confirmed the authenticity of the homicide. He stated that, based on initial preliminary findings, Billal Hossain was fatally stabbed at around 8:00 pm due to a conflict arising during an arbitration meeting. The senior police official noted that the accused perpetrators fled the scene immediately after committing the crime, adding that targeted police operations are currently underway to locate and apprehend the suspects.

The In-Charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Camp, Md Faruk, verified that the body of the deceased individual bore a distinct stab wound on the chest. The law enforcement agency has preserved the body at the hospital morgue for a mandatory post-mortem examination as part of the official investigation.
