Twelve Foot Python Rescued From Mirsharai Agricultural Net

A twelve-foot-long python that became entangled in a protective net surrounding agricultural land in Mirsharai, Chittagong, has been safely rescued and released back into its natural habitat. The wild reptile was retrieved completely unharmed on Saturday afternoon, 20 June 2026, from the Post Office area situated within the Wahedpur union of the upazila. The successful recovery operation was executed by trained responders from the Wildlife and Snake Rescue Team Bangladesh (WSRTB). Following its retrieval, the python was transported to the dense jungle interior surrounding Bawa Chhara Lake, a protected zone managed under the jurisdiction of the Baraiyadhala National Park, where it was successfully released.

Entanglement and Voluntary Rescue Operation

The incident began when local farmers and residents of the Post Office area in the Wahedpur union noticed a large snake tightly trapped within the netting that had been erected around the perimeters of local agricultural plots to protect crops. Recognizing the potential danger to both the animal and the community, the local residents refrained from harming the creature and immediately contacted the specialized personnel of the Wildlife and Snake Rescue Team Bangladesh to handle the situation safely.

Upon receiving the emergency notification from the villagers, a deployment team from the wildlife organization arrived promptly at the specified agricultural site. The rescue operators meticulously cut through the synthetic netting material to free the massive reptile without causing any physical lacerations or skeletal injuries to its body structure.

Physical Specifications and Forest Reintroduction

Md. Naimul Islam Niloy, an active member of the Wildlife and Snake Rescue Team Bangladesh who directly participated in the field operation, provided verified details regarding the specimen’s physical condition and dimensions. He stated that the team responded with high urgency to the call regarding the trapped python to ensure it would not suffer from prolonged constriction or exposure.

After conducting a preliminary health assessment at the site to confirm that the snake had sustained no injuries during its confinement in the agricultural netting, the team coordinated its safe transfer. The reptile was carefully placed into a secure transport container and moved into the remote interior forest sections under the Baraiyadhala National Park system, specifically the dense woodland ecosystem flanking Bawa Chhara Lake, which provides an ideal ecosystem for large constrictors.

The official Forest Department administration was formally notified of the rescue and reintroduction operation. Arun Roy, the Bit Officer of the Borotakia Forest Range, confirmed that he had received an official briefing from Md. Naimul Islam Niloy regarding the successful rescue of the python from the human settlement area and its subsequent return to protected state forest land.

Bit Officer Arun Roy noted that the incident coincides with the arrival of the monsoon season. According to the forestry official’s assessment, it is highly probable that the python ventured out of its traditional deep-forest habitat and into adjacent human-populated agricultural zones in search of food resources. Heavy seasonal rainfall frequently disrupts the natural hunting grounds and prey availability within the hills, driving wildlife down the slopes toward lower-lying cultivation fields. The local forestry division has reiterated the importance of public cooperation, praising the residents of Wahedpur for contacting professional wildlife rescuers instead of taking retaliatory measures against the disoriented creature.
