Three More Suspected Measles Deaths Reported Across Bangladesh

Dhaka, 6 July 2026: Bangladesh has recorded three additional deaths among people suspected of having measles during the past 24 hours, while more than 1,100 new suspected and confirmed infections have been identified, according to the latest figures released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The information was published in a health bulletin issued by the DGHS on Sunday, highlighting the continued pressure the disease is placing on the country’s healthcare system as authorities monitor the outbreak.

According to the bulletin, a total of 1,106 new measles cases were reported over the past 24 hours. Of these, 947 patients were classified as suspected measles cases, while 159 infections were laboratory-confirmed.

The cumulative figures indicate that the outbreak has remained widespread since 15 March. During the period from 15 March to 6 July, the country recorded 106,565 suspected measles cases, alongside 12,791 confirmed infections.

Hospitals have continued to receive a significant number of patients throughout the outbreak. Since 15 March, 89,734 people suspected of having measles have been admitted to hospitals for treatment and observation. During the same period, 86,062 patients have recovered and been discharged, reflecting a substantial number of successful recoveries despite the ongoing spread of the disease.

The latest bulletin also reported three new deaths among suspected measles patients during the previous 24 hours. As a result, the cumulative number of deaths among suspected measles cases has risen to 648 children since 15 March.

No new fatalities were recorded among laboratory-confirmed measles patients during the reporting period. The total number of deaths linked to confirmed measles infections has therefore remained unchanged at 93 since the outbreak began.

The latest figures underscore that measles remains a major public health concern in Bangladesh. Health authorities continue to monitor suspected infections, confirm cases through laboratory testing and provide hospital care for patients requiring treatment. The distinction between suspected and confirmed cases remains significant, as suspected infections are identified based on clinical symptoms before laboratory confirmation, while confirmed cases are verified through diagnostic testing.

Public health officials continue to track the outbreak closely as surveillance, treatment and reporting efforts remain in place across the country to assess the disease’s progression and its impact on communities.
