Woman Arrested in Ukhia with Over 100,000 Yaba Pills

An anti-narcotics operation in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar, has resulted in the arrest of a young woman and the seizure of a massive consignment of Yaba tablets hidden inside a plastic drum. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-15, CPC-2, Whykong) conducted the raid, recovering narcotics with an estimated street value exceeding 10 million Taka.

Assistant Superintendent of Police A.M. Faruk, who also serves as the assistant director (media) for RAB-15, officially confirmed the details of the operation on Tuesday afternoon, 7 July. The detained suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Shakila Sharmin Reshmi, a resident of the Hajirpara area within the Rajapalong union of Ukhia upazila. She is the daughter of the late Abul Kalam and the wife of Mohammad Idris.

According to intelligence gathered by the elite force, a group of drug traffickers had assembled at a residential property in Hajirpara to store and prepare a large shipment of contraband for distribution. Acting on this specific tip-off, a specialised operational team from RAB-15 initiated a raid on the suspected household on 6 July, utilizing advanced information technology and local surveillance to pinpoint the location.

As the law enforcement personnel closed in on the residence, the suspects inside noticed the presence of the security forces. In the ensuing panic, the traffickers attempted to flee through the rear exits of the house, abandoning a large blue plastic drum in the main room. Although several accomplices managed to evade capture during the initial scramble, the officers secured the perimeter and arrested Reshmi on the spot.

A subsequent physical search of the abandoned plastic drum led to the discovery of 110,000 individually wrapped Yaba pills carefully concealed inside. RAB officials noted that this synthetic drug, which blends methamphetamine and caffeine, remains a highly smuggled item along the border regions.

During preliminary interrogation whilst in custody, Reshmi admitted to her direct involvement in the illicit narcotics trade, acknowledging that she had been assisting the cartel in moving and storing contraband. Following the completion of the raid, RAB filed a formal case under the Narcotics Control Act against Reshmi and her fleeing accomplices. The suspect, alongside the seized evidence, has been handed over to the Ukhia Police Station for further judicial processing, whilst a separate investigation remains underway to track down the fugitive network members.
