Bangladeshi rock and heavy metal legends Warfaze have officially entered a monumental new era in their illustrious 42-year career. Following a series of historic milestones—including becoming the first musical band to be bestowed with the prestigious Ekushey Padak, securing a global partnership with the iconic brand Zippo, and maintaining a relentless concert schedule—the pioneering group has broken a 14-year studio silence. The band has formally unveiled “Girgiti”, the lead single from their highly anticipated eighth studio album.
The track, penned by Shams Mansoor Ghani and K.M. Imranul Haque Ritul, features visual production and arrangement by Upstudio Production House. In a notable cross-industry collaboration, “Girgiti” will double as the title track for an upcoming feature film directed by Sourav Kundu. Starring ABM Sumon and Purnima Brishti, the cinematic project originally commenced filming in 2019 but faced a series of unforeseen delays. During a promotional press event held at a premier club in Dhaka, the film’s creators revealed that hurdles have finally been overcome, with plans to resume shooting and announce a release date in the near future.
Reflecting on the emotional and creative weight of the new track, Warfaze vocalist Palash Noor shared:
“Music, to us, is an art of storytelling, and this song perfectly embodies that philosophy. Composing for cinema introduces unique challenges because you are translating a specific directorial vision. At one point in the studio, I felt deeply overwhelmed and questioned my own delivery. However, the collective encouragement of the band gave me the strength to push through. Hearing the final mix made every struggle worthwhile; it stands as the absolute pinnacle of my career.”
While the first single has been made public, the title of the forthcoming album remains a closely guarded secret. Band leader and veteran drummer Sheikh Monirul Alam Tipu clarified that Warfaze traditionally avoids naming an album until the entire tracklist is fully recorded and polished, ensuring the final title reflects the collective spirit of the complete body of work.
Simultaneously, the heavy metal pioneers are poised to make history on the international stage by embarking on their first-ever concert tour of the United Kingdom. This maiden British venture represents a long-awaited milestone for the band’s massive diaspora following. The itinerary includes high-profile performances across multiple British cities, highlighted by a headline appearance on 19 July at the prestigious Royal Regency venue in London for the “Bangla Fest & Award UK”.
The band is scheduled to depart Dhaka immediately for their British tour, with a return flight booked for 23 July. Upon their repatriation, Warfaze will immediately pivot back to their domestic audience. On 2 August, they are set to take center stage at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka for a grand solo concert. Titled “Playlist Tribute to Originals” and organised by Brandmyth and Mars & Co., the event will feature a meticulously crafted segment paying homage to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
