Chittagong University authorities have suspended all classes and academic examinations for a second consecutive day on Thursday, 9 July, owing to unrelenting inclement weather. The decision follows a severe monsoon spell that has triggered extensive waterlogging and a major transport crisis across the region. A formal notification, signed by the acting Registrar of the university, Professor Dr Mohammad Saiful Islam, was released on Wednesday night to inform students and staff of the continuing suspension.
According to the official circular, the suspension remains in force because weather conditions have shown no significant improvement. The university campus and its surrounding low-lying areas continue to battle severe inundation, making commuting virtually impossible for the student body. Previously, all academic activities for Wednesday had been halted after three days of torrential downpours left the campus stranded. Given the safety risks posed by the ongoing deluge and the disruption of the university’s dedicated shuttle train service, authorities deemed it necessary to extend the closure.
The prolonged suspension has severely disrupted the academic calendars of numerous faculties. A total of 19 departments and institutes have had to postpone their scheduled undergraduate and postgraduate examinations across various years and semesters. This mass postponement raises immediate concerns regarding potential session jams, though administrative officials stressed that student safety must take precedence over academic timelines.
The complete list of the affected departments, institutes, and their respective postponed examinations has been detailed by the university administration below:

University authorities have assured students that revised schedules for the postponed examinations will be announced by the respective departments and institutes once weather conditions stabilise. Students have been strongly counselled to remain indoors and monitor official university channels for further updates.
