Man’s Body Found Floating Near In-Laws’ Home in Pabna

The body of a 20-year-old man has been recovered from a ditch near his father-in-law’s residence in the Pabna Sadar upazila. The deceased, identified as Tuhin Khan, was found with a traditional towel wrapped tightly around his neck.

Local police retrieved the body on Saturday morning from the Naldah Purvapara Lalgola area under the Bharara union. Tuhin was the son of Habibur Rahman of Tatipara village in the Chartarapur union. According to local sources, he had travelled to the area to visit his wife, Afsana Khatun, whose father, Akhtar Hossain, is currently working abroad in Dubai.

Investigations reveal that the visit took a tense turn on Friday evening when a fierce domestic dispute broke out between Tuhin and his wife. Local residents reported hearing the altercation, which authorities later linked to issues surrounding substance abuse. Preliminary police findings indicate that Tuhin struggled with drug addiction, a factor that had repeatedly strained his relationship with his marital family and served as the catalyst for the argument.

The case has taken a complex turn following statements from Tarikul Islam, the Officer-in-Charge of Pabna Sadar Police Station. Initial intelligence suggested that Tuhin took his own life on a local mosque veranda during the night. Law enforcement received an emergency tip-off at around 2:00 am and immediately dispatched a team to the site. However, upon arrival, officers discovered that the body had vanished.

Investigators later learned that local individuals had moved the body from the mosque and cast it into a nearby pond, presumably to avoid legal complications or immediate police scrutiny. The situation changed again in the morning when neighbours spotted the body floating in the water and alerted the police for a second time.

Officers subsequently secured the scene and arranged for the body to be transported to the Pabna General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Detectives are now working to piece together the timeline of events, focusing heavily on identifying the individuals who altered the scene by moving the body. A formal investigation is underway to determine whether the death was a suicide or involved foul play.
