Global Insurance Broker Market Projected to Reach USD 653 Billion

The global insurance brokers and agents industry is on track for substantial expansion over the next decade, driven by a shifting risk landscape and an escalating demand for bespoke financial guidance. According to data published by research firm Global Market Insights, the sector is forecast to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.1 per cent between 2026 and 2035. This momentum is expected to propel the global market value to USD 653.4 billion by the end of the forecast period, rising from an estimated baseline of USD 299.6 billion in 2026.

This projected trajectory follows a robust performance in 2025, when the global industry was valued at USD 276.5 billion. Several overarching structural factors are accelerating this development, most notably the growing complexity of modern operational threats and a significant trend towards personalised insurance advice. Corporate and individual clients are increasingly moving away from standardised, off-the-shelf policies in favour of sophisticated risk management frameworks tailored to their exact vulnerabilities.

Regional Dynamics and Emerging Fronts

Geographically, North America continues to maintain its status as the largest regional market for insurance intermediaries. The region’s dominant position is reinforced by exceptionally high insurance penetration rates, deeply entrenched regulatory frameworks, and a mature, advisory-led commercial model that prioritises long-term client relationships.

In contrast, the Asia Pacific region is expected to register the fastest growth rate globally over the coming decade. A combination of rising public awareness regarding financial protection, rapidly expanding middle-class populations, and sweeping regulatory reforms is unlocking massive growth potential across major economies, including China, India, Japan, and several key Southeast Asian nations. The swift integration of digital ecosystems in these countries has also allowed intermediaries to modernise their client acquisition and retention strategies.

Shifting Roles and Compliance Demands

The modern risk environment has fundamentally changed the relationship between intermediaries and policyholders. Brokers and agents are increasingly transitioning from transactional sales representatives into comprehensive risk consultants. This broader advisory role is particularly evident in high-stakes sectors such as cyber insurance, commercial liability, and specialised health insurance, where clients require ongoing expert counsel to navigate volatile operational and legal terrains.

Simultaneously, navigating the global regulatory environment has become a capital-intensive priority for market participants. As jurisdictions introduce stricter licensing standards, heightened fiduciary responsibilities, and rigid data protection mandates, firms are forced to scale up their operational governance. Broking houses are expanding their budgets to fund advanced internal compliance infrastructure, rigid automated audit systems, and continuous professional training programmes for front-line personnel.

Despite the large scale of the global marketplace, a handful of dominant institutions continue to capture a significant share of industry revenue. In 2025, Marsh McLennan stood as the world’s largest individual player, commanding a 5.27 per cent share of the global market. Together, the top five corporate entities—comprising Allianz, Aon, AXA, Brown & Brown, and Marsh McLennan—accounted for 19.97 per cent of the global marketplace, illustrating a highly competitive environment where scale, international reach, and diversified advisory capabilities remain paramount.
