Saudi Arabia Leads Remittances to Bangladesh With Over 5 Billion Dollars

Saudi Arabia has maintained its position as the largest source of expatriate earnings for Bangladesh, contributing 5.28 billion dollars during the first eleven months of the outgoing fiscal year. According to the latest figures released by the central bank, Bangladesh Bank, the gulf nation accounted for roughly 16 per cent of the total remittances funneled into the South Asian economy over this period.

In total, non-resident Bangladeshis sent home 32.77 billion dollars from across the globe between July and May. A closer look at the geographic distribution of these inflows reveals a heavy reliance on a small cluster of nations, with the top five source countries generating 20.25 billion dollars. This sum represents approximately 62 per cent of the overall foreign exchange received by the country.

The concentration of remittances from these specific markets stems primarily from the massive concentration of Bangladeshi migrant workers and permanent residents living in these regions. The United Kingdom emerged as the second-largest donor country, dispatching 4.69 billion dollars during the eleven-month timeframe. It was closely followed by the United Arab Emirates, which generated 4.28 billion dollars, while Malaysia and the United States contributed 3.22 billion dollars and 2.79 billion dollars respectively.

The strong performance of remittance corridors, particularly from the Middle East and Western nations, remains a crucial lifeline for Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves and broader macroeconomic stability. With worker mobility resuming across major global economies, formal banking channels have seen consistent transaction volumes from overseas laborers seeking to support families back home.

Official figures for the final month of the fiscal year, June, have not yet been released by Bangladesh Bank. Economic analysts expect the full-year tally to reflect sustained growth once the final month’s figures are consolidated.
