Husband Arrested After Wife Dies From Stabbing at Hospital

A 26-year-old woman died after allegedly being stabbed by her husband while she was receiving treatment at Dhamoirhat Upazila Health Complex in Naogaon district on Monday morning. Police have arrested the husband in connection with the incident.

The deceased, identified as Munira Khatun, was the daughter of Masud of Amarpur village in Dhamoirhat upazila. Her husband, Farhad Hossain, is the son of Helal Uddin of Atul village in neighbouring Joypurhat district.

According to local residents and police sources, Munira went to Dhamoirhat Upazila Health Complex on Monday morning with her sister, Mohsina, to seek medical treatment. Farhad had reportedly returned home from Dhaka on Sunday, a day before the incident. The couple had allegedly been experiencing marital discord for a considerable period.

After learning that his wife was at the health complex, Farhad went there on Monday morning. The couple reportedly began arguing while speaking outside the hospital. At one point, the dispute escalated, and Farhad allegedly attacked Munira with a knife, stabbing her in the chest and abdomen.

Munira sustained serious injuries in the attack. She was immediately taken to the hospital’s emergency department for treatment. However, despite efforts by medical staff, her condition deteriorated and she died while undergoing treatment at around 11.30am.

The incident caused alarm among people at the health complex, where patients and their relatives were present at the time. According to the authorities, Farhad attempted to flee from the area after the attack. Hospital security personnel, including members of the Ansar force assigned to duty there, reportedly detained him and handed him over to police.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the serious consequences of domestic disputes and violence within families. Although the circumstances surrounding the couple’s long-running marital conflict remain under investigation, police are expected to examine the events leading up to the stabbing as part of the case.

Dhamoirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mintu Rahman confirmed Munira’s death and said Farhad Hossain had been detained from the scene. Police have also prepared the inquest report on the deceased, while legal proceedings in connection with the incident were under way.

Authorities are expected to investigate the alleged motive, the nature of the dispute between the couple and the precise sequence of events that led to the fatal attack. The arrested man will face legal action following the formal registration of the case.
