Police in Noakhali’s Companiganj upazila have arrested a 22-year-old man accused of abducting and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl whilst she was returning home from her sister’s in-laws’ residence.
The suspect, identified as Nazim Uddin, son of Md Odon, was taken into custody on Sunday night, 2 August. His arrest followed a formal criminal complaint lodged by the victim’s mother at Companiganj Police Station earlier that morning. According to official reports, the assault occurred on Thursday, 30 July, in the Char Balua area under Ward No. 6 of Char Elahi Union.
Details outlined in the police case statement reveal that the teenager was walking back to her house from her elder sister’s in-laws’ home in the same locality. Nazim Uddin, who was allegedly lying in wait along the route, ambushed the victim as she approached her residence. He forced her into a nearby secluded spot, muffled her cries by wrapping her scarf around her face, and assaulted her.
The attack was interrupted when a local resident, identified as Amjad Hossain, heard noises whilst passing by. As Hossain rushed towards the spot to investigate, the suspect fled the scene to evade capture. The victim was subsequently rescued and reunited with her family.
Speaking on the investigation, Officer-in-Charge of Companiganj Police Station, Mohammad Nurul Hakim, confirmed that law enforcement officers acted swiftly upon receiving the formal complaint. Police launched an immediate operation to locate the suspect, resulting in his arrest on Sunday night. Official legal procedures are now underway, including arranging medical examinations for the victim and preparing the case for court proceedings.
