Late Gangster Atiq Ahmed’s Son Dies in Jhansi Crash

Aban Ahmed, the youngest son of the late gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, has been killed in a high-speed road accident on a highway in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The fatal collision occurred on Thursday morning when the vehicle he was travelling in lost control and crashed heavily into a central road divider.

According to details released by local police, Aban was travelling in a white Hyundai Creta alongside several companions. The group was en route to Jhansi District Jail, where Aban intended to visit his incarcerated elder brother. As the speeding vehicle navigated the highway, the driver lost control, causing the car to slam violently into the concrete divider. Aban and another passenger, identified as Sonu, died on the spot due to the severity of the impact. Three other occupants suffered critical injuries in the crash.

Jhansi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) BBGTS Murthy confirmed the timeline and nature of the emergency response. Police personnel rushed to the crash site after receiving an alert around 10:30 am. Emergency responders extracted the victims from the wreckage and transported them immediately to a nearby medical college hospital. Medical staff admitted the three surviving passengers, who remain under intensive medical care for severe injuries.

This fatal highway crash marks another dramatic chapter in the turbulent history of Atiq Ahmed’s immediate family. Atiq, a notorious mafia figure who transitioned into electoral politics, fathered five sons whose lives have been repeatedly entangled in criminal proceedings, incarceration, and sudden fatalities. The eldest son, Umar Ahmed, is currently imprisoned in Lucknow Jail, while the second son, Ali Ahmed, remains detained in Jhansi Jail—the very facility Aban was travelling to visit when the crash occurred.

The family’s third son, Asad Ahmed, was killed in April 2023 during a high-profile armed encounter with Uttar Pradesh Police officers in Jhansi. With the fourth son, Ahzam Ahmed, currently out of custody, Aban’s untimely death leaves yet another member of the family dead under violent or tragic circumstances.

The lineage’s violent trajectory reached its peak on 15 April 2023, when Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were assassinated in Prayagraj. The duo was being escorted by police officers for medical examinations when three assailants posing as television journalists opened fire at point-blank range, killing both men live on camera. Atiq Ahmed had amassed a formidable criminal record over several decades, facing over 100 formal charges that ranged from murder and extortion to land grabbing and kidnapping. Shortly before his assassination, in March 2023, a special court had convicted him and handed down a sentence of life imprisonment in a high-profile kidnapping case.
