Madrasa Teacher Detained Over Sexual Assault of Minor in Jhenaidah

Police in Harinakunda, Jhenaidah, have taken a 24-year-old madrasa teacher into custody after enraged local residents detained him on Friday afternoon over allegations of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old residential student.

The suspect, identified as Tanvir, worked as an instructor at a madrasa located in Ghoshbila village, situated within Alamdanga upazila of neighbouring Chuadanga district.

According to police and local sources, the victim hails from Dhulia village in Harinakunda upazila. The teenager had been residing at the boarding facility of the Ghoshbila madrasa to pursue his religious studies. Investigations revealed that the teacher had allegedly exploited his position of authority over an extended period, subjecting the young boy to physical abuse inside the institution’s administrative office.

The situation escalated a few days ago when the teacher reportedly coerced the boy into a room on the second floor of the facility and assaulted him once again. To prevent the abuse from coming to light, the suspect explicitly threatened the minor with severe consequences should he disclose the events to anyone.

Traumatised by the systematic abuse, the boy eventually returned to his family home in Dhulia village. Upon arriving, he confided in his relatives and detailed the ordeal he had suffered at the hands of his teacher.

Outraged by the revelations, family members and local villagers tracked down the teacher in Dhulia village at around 12:00 pm on Friday. Confronted by the gathered crowd, Tanvir reportedly admitted to his actions. Local residents immediately alerted the authorities, and a police team from Harinakunda Police Station arrived at the scene shortly afterwards to take custody of the suspect.

Clarifying the procedural steps, Asit Kumar Roy, Inspector (Investigation) at Harinakunda Police Station, confirmed that the suspect was currently in custody. However, because the alleged offences occurred within the territorial jurisdiction of Alamdanga in Chuadanga district, formal legal proceedings and the official complaint must be lodged with the relevant authorities there.

Harinakunda police are preparing to transfer the suspect to Alamdanga Police Station, where the victim’s family will submit an official complaint to initiate mandatory medical examinations and formal prosecution under the law.
